✨What Elite College Freshmen Should Really Be Seeking Part 1
I want you open your mind to the idea that what you think you should be seeking in college as an elite college freshman might not be what you should really be seeking.
You might think college is about getting grades for a great career, building relationships, exploring clubs, learning, finding yourself, and pursuing happiness.
What if all of that, all of that, is not the true purpose of college?
It's essential we get this right. You Freshmen have an invaluable opportunity to grow yourself in college. You likely have 4 or more years to focus on learning, yourself, and your relationships without the responsibilities that come with being a full fledged adult. Aside from politics, education is the number one place we can alter to grow you, and grow humanity.
Going to College without the things I'll tell you in mind is like setting off on a hike with no compass and a half-filled water bottle. The foundation is off.
Why am I telling you this?
I’m not a professor—I bring the unique perspective of a recent Cornell graduate who left disappointed in the quality of an Ivy League education. But that disappointment launched a quest: to uncover what truly effective learning, teaching, and human thriving looks like. Along the way I’ve:
- Created 700+ YT videos, articles, and podcasts partially on a new vision for college
- Taught 100s of college students and adults through Cornell Outdoor Education, workshops, and six self-made courses
- Worked for the worlds #1 Gamification Consultancy, The Octalysis Group, where I've learned to understand motivation and its roots in college
- Reading 100s of books on conscious education, meta-learning, gamification, and spirituality
Why now?
At this moment the U.S. educational system is undergoing crisis as its questioned by the MAGA movement. The internet and AI are altering the fabric of the world. Now is the best time in the last few decades to discuss the purpose of our college institutions.
The sum of what I tell you here, you won't find anywhere else. I've looked. It doesn't exist because for the most part, the college system is severely behind in terms of education compared to some other sectors in society. It still operates under a similar model to the colleges set up during the Industrial Revolution. It’s not your fault. You worked incredibly hard to get here as a student. And you researched and taught incredibly hard to get tenure. We exist in a system that is made to stop us from making college what it should really be about.
