😁What No One Tells You About Happiness In College
Throughout college, we're told happiness means many things.
Some say it means an A+ at the end of a hard school day. Some say it means eating ice cream while watching the sun set with a group of friends. Some say it means finding your purpose and embodying it in the world. Some say it means cocaine—not me, but statistically, at least someone at this university is saying that right now.
All of these are aspects of relative happiness, the momentary contentment, pleasure or joy you experience because of something. They are all beautiful in their own right. But ultimately, like with all states, these moments fade and we're back to searching for happiness in a sea of stars.
What no one tells you about happiness in college is this: Relative happiness, the state is not true happiness—what you want is Absolute Happiness.
Absolute Happiness includes everything in relative happiness and more. It's an internal loving identity with life, with Consciousness as it is right now, free of needing it to be any different. The realization Consciousness, your life, is already whole, already complete, already loving.
Now I know what you're thinking. Aidan. What wah wah wee wah grass have you been smoking? I can't just snap my fingers and suddenly be happy.
I understand, and that's not really what I'm saying. By the end of the video above you will deeply understand why we aren't happy now, how uniquely to uncover what makes you happy compared to others, and the principles of becoming happier both relatively and absolutely.
I need to stop saying Absolute Happiness so much because every time I do one Economics major unsubscribes.
This is the culmination of six years of searching for happiness myself, and the cross referencing of countless books, videos, and podcasts, across the happiness spectrum. I've ventured into both science and Spirituality non-fiction and fiction:
- Science
- Stumbling Upon Happiness by Daniel Gilbert
- Dopamine Nation
- The World Happiness Report
- Spirituality
- The Religion of Tomorrow by Ken Wilber
- Happiness Beyond Thought Gary Weber
- Siddartha by Herman Hesse
- And so much more
